Promoting civil peace in the suburbs of Jerusalem project.

Some areas in the suburbs of Jerusalem have turned into troubled areas as a result to the current political situation; absence of law enforcement against law violators, unresolved conflicts  and lack of adequate dispute resolution mechanism. Hence, the institution identified an urgent need to promote civil peace and the rule of law, out of its duty towards the local community. Out of the institution’s belief that change can only happy by the Palestinian youth, the institution joined efforts with the Palestinian police in the project "Promoting civil peace in the suburbs of Jerusalem".  

Project Description

Through the Project, the institution seeks to enhance the capabilities of youth in order to become agents of positive change based on respect for the rule of law in the local community, to contribute in maintaining civil peace. It further seeks to build and develop the theoretical and practical skills of participants to deal with conflict by resorting to dialogue, adopting legal mediation, and fruitful and constructive negotiation, as alternatives to violence and the need for requiring self-right. The Project is implemented in partnership with the Palestinian police and with the support of the German organization for International Cooperation (GIZ)

The Project also aims to expand the domain of societal participation of all the local community vehicles in renouncing violence in all its forms, and to involve representatives from the local community in following up the implementation of the project, in addition to working to achieve societal harmony and restore the spirit of the protective group of moral and patriotic values ​​, such as volunteering, Tolerance, fraternity, solidarity and participation.

Project Goals
  • Establishing a youth network consisting of 3 groups in the targeted areas, capable of influencing in making positive change.
  • Establishing a group of "Al Ahaly" (the parents), experienced people to support the youth network.
  • Enhance youth skills in dealing with conflicts positively.
  • Developing community cooperation and partnership between the Palestinian police and the local community, especially the youth.
  • Promoting the security and rule of law situation in the targeted areas.
