Success of The Second International Conference for mediation “United Against Violence in Palestinian Universites”

ACT Conflict Resolution, in partnership with Palestinian Jurists Association and Deanship of Student Affairs at Birzeit University, have successfully held the second international conference for mediation which comes as a part of a project titled: “United Against Violence in Palestinian Universites” funded by Representative Office of Switzerland in Ramallah.

This conference was held on Tuesday the 29th of August 2023 at Caesar Hotel in Ramallah city. It has combined esteemed speakers, experts, and students to discuss the vital role of mediation in reinforcing peaceful solutions within Palestinian universities.

This conference covered a variety of axis as in:

  1. The First Axis: concept note and formation of mediation clubs.

The opening ceremony of the conference revolved around the conceptual framework of mediation, as well as the establishment of newly found mediation clubs within universities. Dr. Rashad Touam, who is an esteemed expert in the field of mediation, has shared his views on the practicalities of human rights and conflict resolution. Students participating in the event have also discussed their experience and the importance of having such clubs in their universities.

  1. The Second Axis: Various Experience in University-Based Mediation Clubs.

The second axis allowed the presentation of multiple experience related to mediation clubs within universities. There has been a focus on the element of cultural diversity and its important role in conflict resolution. This segment included a presentation provided by Yasmin Yaqoubi who discussed the effect of mediation on Palestinian Universities, Moreover, Mohammad Hadieh has also showcased the effective capabilities of mediation on the vast variety of cultures. This segment has been concluded with the participation of Alena Sarhiyeva and her excellent study of mediation among different cultures.

The conference played the role of being a valuable platform for the audience to exchange expertise and pieces of advice, along with the best practices in the field of mediation and conflict resolution. All through the lens of unifying against violence in Palestinian universities. The conference aimed to reinforce the environment of understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The collaboration between ACT Conflict Resolution, The Palestinian Jurists Association, The Deanship of Student Affairs at Birzeit University, and the support of Representative Office of Switzerland in Ramallah, has shown the importance of team approach in reinforcing mediation and processing conflicts.
