The 15th episode of the Mediation Forum titled: Community Mediation
ACT for Conflict Resolution Highlights Community Mediation in a Virtual Webinar
On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the Mediation Forum of the ACT for Conflict Resolution Foundation hosted its 15th episode, featuring lawyer Mohammed Hadiya from Palestine. The session was moderated by lawyer Faten Ben Al-Amin from Tunisia.
During the session, Mr. Hadiya discussed the role of community mediation and its advantages in resolving disputes. He also discussed the peculiarities of community mediation and the difference between it and legal mediation. He praised the advantages of community mediation as a means that reflects our human nature, which is based on love, connection, and communication. He also stated that mediation should be ranked first among the known mechanisms for resolving disputes, especially as it is a flexible mechanism that allows the parties to find solutions that come from them and are derived from them. He also noted that these solutions give the parties the ability and freedom to decide their own destiny, which makes them a successful and effective means for resolving community disputes.
Mr. Hadiya also discussed several models and examples that have used community mediation to build peace or transform a conflict. He stated that this type of mediation does not only play a role in resolving disputes but also contributes to building a community based on peace and harmony.
It is worth noting that this program is part of the project to promote the role of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in Jerusalem, which is implemented by ACT in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and with the support of the Sawsiyah Program.
