The Sectoral Committee of Contractors in the Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Jerusalem and ACT for Conflict Resolution held a meeting to discuss ways to facilitate the contractor's work and to improve the investment environment in Jerusalem
13 December 2021

The sectoral committee aims to represent the interests of contractors in Jerusalem, to contribute in developing their work, and to open new horizons by communicating with investors in Jerusalem.  In this context, it was agreed to work on the inclusion of a model clause for referring future disputes to arbitration in all contracts with local and foreign institutions, in addition to preparing for implementing training courses approved by FIDIC during the next year, in order to qualify the arbitrators, contractors and engineers. Moreover, to organize the joint arbitratral tribunal to include qualified contractors. It is worth mentioning that the Joint Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration (the Chamber of Commerce and the ACT for Conflict Resolution) has approved the joint arbitration rules and is in the process of implementing activities for the commercial sector. Please note that the ACT for Conflict Resolution adopts two basic approaches related to dealing with conflicts, the first is the preventive approach, which strengthens the values of citizenship. As for the second approach, it is the remedial approach which works to provide alternative mechanisms and means to conflict resolution facing Jerusalemites in particular, and to disseminate and mainstream the culture of resorting to alternative means of conflict resolution (arbitration and mediation) as an alternative to heading to regular courts or tribal courts or taking the law into one's own hands. This activity comes within the continuous communication with the institutions working in this field and contributing to improving the social, economic and investment conditions in Jerusalem.
